Influencing and Negotiation skills

Jessica’s to-do list was overflowing with tasks, however her top 3 priorities stood out as they were neatly highlighted in luminous pink - a meeting with ‘aggressive’ Susan in Finance, a chat with ‘passive’ Martin regarding an urgent project she needed him to work on and a meeting with ‘those awkward types’ in HR.  Jessica took a gulp of coffee and a deep breath before reluctantly departing to face her luminous tasks.  About 3 hours later Jessica came storming back into the office, looking completely drained and totally frustrated.  Matthew and Laura, two of her team members briefly pulled their heads up from their Pot Noodles, took one look at Jessica and then gave each other that knowing glance without daring to say those mortal words…“We take it the meetings didn’t go well then?”……

Jessica privately reflected on the 3 meetings.  She came to the conclusion that she allowed herself to be bullied and intimidated by Susan and didn’t sell the ‘What’s in it for me’ bit about the project to Martin, instead ended up mirroring his passive behaviour like a fool. Furthermore, she didn’t know how to overcome the barriers that were thrown unexpectedly in front of her by HR – so all in all, not a great morning’s work to say the least.

The need to influence and negotiate happens all of the time during our working day.  Sometimes we don’t always achieve what we want to and this can be frustrating.  This course focuses on why these frustrations happen and identifies practical , tried and tested ways in which you can influence and negotiate in an assertive and professional manner and how to overcome any barriers that you may come across, with confidence and practical ease. This training course is aimed at anyone who finds themselves in regular influencing and negotiation situations and can be tailored to meet the needs of any level.

What will we cover?
