Advanced Presentation Skills

Meet Harry, we all know a Harry, he’s the bees knees when it come to presentations, you know the type - always delivers an interesting and entertaining presentation.  At the point when you are losing the will to live, up pops Harry to light up the room. He captures your imagination and keeps you listening intently.  He ‘owns’ the stage and walks around with confidence. There is a relevant point to his presentation, it’s not too long and there is a clear flow.  His slides are amazing and you're thinking, ‘Who told him he didn’t need to use bullets? Quick, call the PowerPoint Police.’ Harry is good - very good in fact. His presentations are delivered effortlessly, they are always interesting and most of all, memorable.  The whole audience are thinking, “I want to be Harry”.

So, what’s the secret to Harry’s success?  Well, here’s the best bit - there isn’t one.  At some point Harry was stuck in his comfort zone - he rolled out the same presentation time and time again, same gags (he still laughed at them) same slides, same annoying clip art pictures (I swear I’ll scream if I see another man climbing up a mountain with a flag).  Harry simply stepped out of his comfort zone and learned new techniques that captured the audience’s attention.

Advanced Presentation Skills is for those who want to do a ‘Harry’ and stretch themselves.  It is aimed at those who are competent presenters but want to be better, those who want stand out from the crowd; those who want to be cutting edge.  It is aimed at those who have gone stale and want to get back that adrenaline rush from presentations that go fantastically well.

This session involves you bringing an existing short presentation with you so that we can work on it throughout the day, giving you the opportunity to see a real shift in your skills.  Some of the areas we will cover are:-

  • Clearly understanding the point of the presentation –What’s the objective?
  • Tapping into the minds of the audience – What’s in it for them?
  • Getting creative – Thinking before putting pen to paper
  • Capturing your audience immediately
  • Finding the flow
  • Bringing the text and numbers to life
  • The art of great story telling
  • “I have a dream” - Analysing some of the 20th Century's greatest speeches from Churchill and Luther King, through to Thatcher and Blair. What made them memorable?
The second part of the session will involve you carrying out your improved presentation, putting into practice all the skills that you have acquired. We will offer honest, unbiased and constructive feedback so that you can hone those skills and truly maximise your potential.

This course is challenging and will really test your skills, but most of all will provide you with practical tools that you can take away and use to ‘wow’ your future audiences, potentially just like your competitors already do?  So, if you’re feeling brave enough and you too want to be part of Harry’s gang, then this course is a real must for you.
