Presentation Skills for Beginners

Its 9.30am, the meeting starts at 10.00am; “Why me? They know I hate presentations”.  You have been asked to present a 15min Practice Area update to the Management Board.  You have been nervous all week, but since the clock hit 9.30am your nerves have gone into overdrive.  You have started to shake, you are sweating and that nasty person in your head is asking you ‘What if I make a fool of myself? What if I dry up? I should have practiced more instead of watching ‘Country File’ last night.” - For some people, this is an all too familiar story...ok, maybe not the ‘Country File’ bit!

Presentations come in all shapes and sizes – from presentations in team meetings through to presenting in front of 50-100 potential clients.  Either way they can be a scary experience can't they?

This session is aimed specifically at those who have never presented before, those who have ‘dabbled’ and have been left mentally scarred by their experience and those who simply just want to build up their confidence.

What will we cover ?

  • Your Mindset – Getting the right frame of mind
  • Getting rid of the excess baggage
  • Feeling confident with your own presentation style
  • The 5 key stages of careful preparation
  • A great beginning, a brilliant middle and an excellent end
  • Using your pitch, tone and body language to your advantage
  • Controlling and managing the dreaded nerves
  • Getting your audience, big or small to feed off your posture and gestures
  • Just when you thought it was all over, up pop the questions.  Handling the questions you know the answers to, the ones you don’t and the ones you dread.

The second part of the session will involve you carrying out a 10 min presentation.  Practice is the absolute key to fantastic presentations and this will be a great opportunity for you to put into practice what you have learned.  You will receive some really valuable feedback that you will be able to take into your next presentation and beyond.

We appreciate that presentations can be daunting.  In fact, recent studies have shown that people are more scared of presenting in public than they are of snakes and even death!  So if you are looking to step out of your comfort zone then maybe this course is just the ticket?
